About
True Patriot Love's Expeditions connect business leaders with members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Veterans to take on intense physical challenges while offering meaningful mentorship opportunities that support the military to civilian transition.
Since 2012, the True Patriot Love Foundation has produced ambitious expeditions around the world, pairing business leaders with members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Veterans.
These expeditions highlight the perseverance and unconquerable spirit of our Veterans in the face of adversity and provide them with long-lasting mentorship opportunities as they transition to civilian life.
Through our annual expedition program, Veterans rediscover how the resilience, leadership and skills developed through service can be applied in new contexts, while building meaningful connections beyond the military community. Business leaders gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities and sacrifices of service life and provide one-on-one support as military participants transition to civilian careers. Through shared challenge and experience, participants build trust, connection and a sense of belonging, forming lasting relationships that extend far beyond the expedition.

Supporting Veterans on their journey to connection and community
“Paddling the Nahanni has been a turning point in my healing - I felt strength, connection, and a peace I had been searching for. It gave me hope, reminded me of my resilience, and showed me that healing is truly possible.”
Our Past Expeditions
Mount Waddington
June 27 - July 8, 2026
Fourteen military and civilian participants embarked on a 12-day journey to Mount Waddington, British Columbia’s highest peak, once dubbed Mystery Mountain. Towering at 4,019 m (13,186 ft), this remote and rugged peak rises dramatically from sea level within just 32 kilometres, surrounded by deep gorges, massive icefields and awe-inspiring Himalayan-like terrain. It presents some of the most demanding and breathtaking expedition mountaineering in North America.
After arriving safely and establishing their first camp, the team adapted to a change in plans when weather conditions made the original route unsafe. With safety as the priority, they set their sights on Mount Munday, Mount Jeffrey, and Deception Peak. The expedition team met the challenge with resilience, optimism, and the understanding that growth comes from adapting together.
Nahanni River
August 26 – September 7, 2025
True Patriot Love’s 2025 all-women’s expedition brought together 22 business leaders and military members to paddle 240km on the internationally renowned Nahanni River. The expedition team had an epic 10-day adventure – paddling, portaging, and navigating one of Canada’s most remote and awe-inspiring rivers.
Flowing through the Northwest Territories, the Nahanni has created deep river canyons that cut through mountain ranges and spectacular granite peaks. Its course is punctuated with whirlpools, rapids, and huge waterfalls. In recognition of its breathtaking features and terrain, Nahanni National Park Reserve was among the first World Heritage Sites declared by the United Nations.
Where Once They Stood, We Stand
September 6 – 14, 2024
In September 2024, the expedition team of 10 participants tackled the rugged back country of the Long Range Traverse in Gros Morne National Park.
The Where They Once Stood, We Stand expedition took place during a historic time in Newfoundland and Labrador – marking the 75th anniversary of Newfoundland joining the Confederation, and the repatriation of an unknown Newfoundland soldier who died in the battlefields of northern France in the First World War. The expedition was proudly co-chaired by proud Newfoundlanders General (Ret’d) Rick Hillier, Dwight Ball, and Greg Roberts.
The expedition began with a special welcome dinner hosted in partnership with Memorial University to learn more about their journey ahead and wish them well. The team then flew to Deer Lake, ferried across to Western Brook Pond, where the adventure really began. The expedition team successfully completed the 35km trek and were welcomed back to St. John’s for a final team celebration dinner.
A Tribute to the Devil’s Brigade
Helena, Montana – September 29 – October 5, 2023
Cassino, Italy – June 1 – 5, 2024
The True Patriot Love Expedition: A Tribute to the Devil’s Brigade followed along the path carved by the First Special Service Force (FSSF) – from their intense training in Helena, Montana to Italy and their battle on Monte la Difensa where they spearheaded the Italian Campaign.
In September 2023, 15 business and community leaders and military members arrived in Helena, Montana to retrace the training of the FSSF. The expedition team trekked 74km from the MacDonald Pass to Stemple Pass, along the Continental divide trail. The team experienced stunning vistas and difficult weather – but came together as a team to tackle the challenge.
In June of 2024, eight additional guests joined the expedition team in Cassino, Italy as they continued following the path carved by the FSSF. The group hiked Monte la Difensa and Mount Majo, learning about the relentless battles that took place during the Italian Campaign. The group also had the opportunity to visit the historic towns and cities, tour through the Abbey of Montecassino and ended with a special evening in Rome.
Barbeau Peak
June 27, 2023 – July 2, 2023
The True Patriot Love Expedition: Barbeau Peak supported Canada’s military by attempting to summit Mount Barbeau. Located on Ellesmere Island in Quttinirpaaq National Park, Barbeau Peak is Canada’s most isolated peak, and at 8,583 feet (2,616m) the highest mountain in Nunavut, the Canadian Arctic, and all eastern North America.
Our expedition team of 14 military members and community and business leaders traveled from Calgary, AB to Resolute Bay, NU, finally landing at Lake Hazen. As the expedition team made their way to the first camp, the encountered unforeseen bad weather and made the difficult decision to turn back to prioritize safety. However, their spirits remained high throughout the journey back to Lake Hazen. Even amidst the challenges, the resilient team managed to achieve something amazing – they successfully conquered an unmarked peak in the range, marking a remarkable first ascent.
Algonquin Adventure
Summer 2021
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenging realities associated with it, True Patriot Love launched a new form of our classic expedition series bringing military servicemembers and frontline healthcare workers for a journey through the Canadian wilderness.
Three separate expedition teams of 10 participants from across the country spent six days connecting and canoeing through the backcountry in Algonquin Park in July and August of 2021. Using nature as the backdrop, the expedition participants learned new skills, forged new friendships and grew their support network.
Baffin Island
April 1 – 14, 2019
Our first-ever all women’s expedition was a great success! The True Patriot Love Women’s Expedition: Baffin Island 2019 Presented by Mackenzie Investments brought together a team of women from the military and female business and community leaders from across Canada. Together, they snowshoed across the Arctic Circle and traversed the Akshayuk Pass and had the rare opportunity to visit the northern section of the Owl River Valley.
Working as a team to complete this mission, participants faced physical, emotional and mental roadblocks throughout their journey. Each expeditioner had the opportunity to share stories and create meaningful relationships for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Himalayas
April 1 - April 18, 2018
The True Patriot Love Scotiabank Expedition: Himalayas 2018 brought together currently serving members and Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces with business and community leaders to take on unique physical challenges together.
2018 marked the 65th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary’s iconic first ascent of Mount Everest. To mark the anniversary, Peter Hillary, Sir Edmund’s son and two-time Everest conqueror himself, guided a group of True Patriot Love expeditioners on a once-in-a-lifetime trek to Everest Base Camp. After reaching Everest Base Camp, some team members ascended the 20,000-ft. peak of Lobuche East, which sits next to Mount Everest in Nepal.
